Kinja'd!!!

So my father who is not getting any younger is still driving all over the country to see friends and family. Now his health is good, his eyesight is good and he has limited Roadside assistance from his insurance company. But I just think a AAA Plus with 100 miles of towing and the other benefits would just be good for him and my piece of mind.

I will say I have AAA and have been very pleased with their service, I haven’t had to use towing yet but the tire change, Jump start and Lock out service are all well worth the price.

What’s the oppo h ive mind think?

Oh Yeah about 20,000 miles a year. he certainly is getting the most out of his retirement. my hesitation is it really will make me feel better knowing he has it so is it for him or me.

They had a sale going like a day or two ago... It seems like a good idea for anyone that doesn’t have all this through their insurance (a lot of insurance companies offer similar benefits).

I used to “tough this out” for years and years without any Roadside Assistance , but have had a run of project car mishaps in the last 18 months. Very glad that I signed on with AAA , after lapsing for years, in 2017 again.

This is THE BEST kind of gift— it has real value, has staying power and will definitely be there to use. Unlike those ridiculous gift cards we used to give each other.

It’s for you until he needs it. It might give you some peace of mind, but with the amount he drives, he’s more likely to need it.

Honestly the insurance benefit is crappy and expensive, it is like the 1st tier AA A but can only be used on the insured car and costs twice as much.

Seems like a no brainer. A bit of an unemotional gift, but honestly - I’ve had AAA for 16 years (got it as soon as I could drive) and the towing is quite useful. It’s gotten less useful in recent years (they really limited the number of tows) but it’s still a good service.

Well he doesn’t have a hooptie but he douse have a 6 year old BMW.  The Emotionless part was where I was struggling but it is something of =real value and will make me feel better as well, selfish yes but I worry about him.

When I got my drivers license, my dad signed me up for AAA. 37 years later, I’m still a member. I might go a year without needing to call, so I haven’t gotten my moneys worth I suppose , but every time I’ve called for a tow, battery service, or whatever, it has been with the weight in gold. I would not consider owning a car without AAA.

My parents don’t have AAA because their insurance provides similar benefits.

I have AAA Plus because I’m weird and apparently more like my grandparents. I had AAA insurance in California that was great and super cheap; now I have insurance through an insurance company that has some kind of deal with AAA and the rates are still practically unbeatable. I don’t even own unreliable cars...

I’ve used AAA a bunch of times over my long membership. For someone who drives cross country and doesn’t have it, it’s a great and thoughtful gift idea. Also, there are hotel and rental discounts with it, usually 10%, though he may already get that through his insurance. Just remember to keep paying his re-up each year so it’s a true gift.

After years of receiving (and giving, frankly) “meh” gifts, I’d have to say it’s almost the perfect gift— for the reasons I listed above.... and the fact that it really says “I care”.

It’s a superb gesture.

Absolutely. After the first tow, it’s paid for itself. Just go all the way to Premier for 4 100 miles tows and 1 200 miler. I have that, primarily it gets used to tow shitboxes home, but without a doubt it is worthwhile.

Something I forgot to say: the gift of membership is a great idea, but it needs to be renewed each year, either by you or your dad.
